We’re Halfway There: Referendum 90

We’re Halfway There: Referendum 90

Friends,

I am writing to update you on our progress combating the disastrous SB 5395, which was signed into law by Governor Inslee at the end of the last legislative session. For those of you who have joined our mailing list since the last email on the subject, here’s the short version:

SB 5395 forces all schools with state-accreditation, including home school programs, to teach so-called “Comprehensive Sex-Ed” (CSE). These CSE curricula are designed by Planned Parenthood and associated organizations.

Former Planned Parenthood employees like clinic owner Carol Everett admit that the purpose of Planned Parenthood’s particular version of sex-ed is to get teens pregnant and drive up abortion numbers by promoting rampant promiscuity. The contents of these K-12 CSE curricula are so explicit that they could not be aired on network television.

Referendum 90, spearheaded by Parents for Safe Schools and Informed Parents of Washington, is our chance to overturn 5395’s CSE and resume the conversation about sex-ed in our schools. If we can gather enough signatures on the petition, we can get Referendum 90 added to the November ballot.

So far, in spite of the lockdown, we have gathered over 73,000 signatures! Thank you to everyone who has signed and helped others sign!

At this point, we have a little less than three weeks to get approximately 80,000 more. Petitions must be returned to the state by June 10th which, practically speaking, means they must be returned to Parents for Safe Schools by about June 2nd. Contact them for more specific timing.

There are two ways for a registered voter to sign a petition:
1. In person at one of the locations below (social distancing; bring your own pen).
2. Obtain your own petition from Parents for Safe Schools and gather signatures.

Below we have listed just a few of the many signing locations we’ve been told about. If you don’t see yours here, or if you just want more information on CSE, be sure to check out Informed Parents of Washington (IPOW) and Parents for Safe Schools.

If you’d like to host a signing, please follow established guidelines for health and safety,* and be sure to let us, IPOW, and Parents for Safe Schools know where you are so we can spread the word.

Once again, a big thank you to everyone who has signed and gathered signatures! Not even pandemics will keep us from standing up for our kids!

* It is important to observe safe sanitary procedures when gathering signatures. The recent White House briefing indicated that invisible airborne saliva droplets from normal speaking, which travel several feet, can carry the live virus SARS-CoV-2 for sixty minutes indoors, but in direct sunlight (outdoors), the virus will die in sixty seconds. You can watch the briefing here or view the transcript here. Additional resources attached at the bottom. Take proper precautions, and please wear your face mask if gathering signatures face-to-face!
