Friends,
It’s not often we get to celebrate a victory for life in the Washington State legislature, but today we can! HB 1141 failed to go to the floor for a Senate vote before the cutoff time. That makes it a dead bill for this session!
HB 1141 would have made our already bad assisted suicide laws even worse. Fortunately, thousands of Washingtonians rallied to warn our legislators of the dangers this would pose, especially to people in vulnerable situations. These reasonable arguments from constituents like you made legislators stop and think about what would really happen if this passed.
The bill died this session from a lack of support in the Senate, and that wouldn’t have happened without the hard work of folks like you who joined our coalition effort to shut it down! Yes, this bill will be back next session, but for now we’ve won some breathing room, and that’s worth celebrating!
