The New Face of Human Life of Washington

This post is copied from the original communication sent out via Flocknote (our customer relations management database provider) on Dec. 19, 2019. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Human Life of Washington is making an increased effort to optimize our website and other online resources. As such, our Flocknote communications will be coming out more frequently than suggested in the original post for the foreseeable future. To join our general Flocknote mailing list, please text HLW to 84576 or follow this link: https://humanlifewa.flocknote.com/everyone. Hello and Welcome to the New and Improved HLW!

Human Life of Washington is proud to announce that we have updated our website (humanlifewa.org) and partnered with the folks at Flocknote to streamline our communication and give you the pro-life news and materials you deserve!

A New Way of Doing Things

Currently, you are reading one of our all-hands messages, which we plan to keep few and far between to avoid inundating you with emails and texts. We respect your time and don’t want to fill up your inboxes, and plan to limit the all-hands messages to just a few each year. If you want monthly and topical updates on pro-life events, legislation, and resources, please subscribe to HLW Defenders by texting Defenders to 84576 or by following this URL: https://programs.flocknote.com/Defenders. Further opportunities to network and hone in on the specific ways you want to be involved will become available on a forward-going basis.

In this message, you will find an easy way to make a big impact in the Pro-Life cause. Its deadline is January 4th, so don’t delay! Before we get to that, however, two last quick notes: Firstly, if you are aware of pro-life resources in your community (crisis pregnancy centers, post-abortive care, adoption agencies), please let us know so that we may spread the word. Secondly, if you know of pro-life events or anti-life events happening in your area, tell us all about it so we can let the rest of our network know. Contact information is at the bottom of the email, or, if you prefer, you can contact us through our website: https://humanlifewa.org/contact/.

Once again, welcome and have a wonderful Christmas season!

Parental Notification of Abortion Act

In case you aren’t aware, there’s a new piece of proposed pro-life legislation on the docket for Washington State. I-1004, also called the Parental Notification of Abortion Act, is a critical stepping stone to future pro-life victories. It’s a baseline initiative which is specific enough to advance the cause, but broad enough to make opposition to it difficult without the other side alienating their constituents. You can read the full text here, but essentially the initiative advances the pro-life cause in two broad categories: Firstly, it forbids abortions to be carried out on minors without parental notification. Secondly, it creates avenues for minors who may not want the abortion but are being coerced into it by their parents to seek support and even emancipation so as to escape the coercion, allowing them to carry the child to term.

Obviously, I-1004 is only a first step but, in a wildly pro-abortion state like ours, it’s a vital first step. So basic are its principles that we may even find people who have backed (or at least not blocked) pro-abortion legislation in the past coming down on our side, much like how even most pro-abortion people are against Cuomo’s infanticide law in New York. I-1004 is a critical opportunity for us to gain ground against the Culture of Death and perhaps change the public perception of the pro-life movement at the same time. Most importantly, this legislation will save lives and create opportunities for people to make the right choice with fewer restrictions.

If you want to help the initiative, please follow this link at Parents and Teachers Protecting Minors to find the official petitions and the guidelines for how they must be issued. The guidelines are important, as the petitions may be rendered void if they are not followed. Also, it is important to sign the petition with your name as it appears on your voter’s packets, i.e. with or without your middle initial, for it to be valid. If you have any questions or difficulties, please feel free to contact us by email, phone, or through our website: https://humanlifewa.org/contact/.

We encourage you to sign, and, where possible, to organize signings of the petition in your churches, communities, families, and friend groups. Every voice counts! Remember, the deadline is January 4th.

The war has been long, but this is a milestone on the road to victory!
