National Right to Life estimates there have been 60.9 million abortions (60,942,033) since the Supreme Court stripped legal protection for unborn children in 1973.
National Right to Life estimates there were about 906,000 abortions in the United States in 2018. That’s nearly 2,500 each day. 103 abortions per hour. 1 abortion every 34 seconds.
These numbers are estimated utilizing data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Guttmacher Institute (which was originally founded as the research arm of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America).
The CDC data, which is current through 2015, are voluntary reported by state health departments, New York City and the District of Columbia. Since 1998, data from California, New Hampshire, and at least one other state have not been reported to the CDC.
Guttmacher is the research arm of Planned Parenthood, our nations largest abortion provider. Guttmacher contacts abortion clinics directly for data, but does not survey annually. Their most recent report covers annual abortion data through 2014. Because of their survey methods, their data is considered more complete.

The vast majority of abortions in the United States are performed as a method of birth control. Most abortions are preformed on healthy mothers with healthy babies.
A report published by the Guttmacher Institute in 2005 found that 93% of abortions are performed for social reasons. Among the reasons given by women:
The same study found that about 7% of abortions are performed in the cases where the mother’s life is in danger, the baby may have a health problem or when the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.

Most Americans don’t understand that the Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton legalized abortion, for any reason, throughout all nine months of pregnancy.
Roe v. Wade
Relying on an unstated “right of privacy” found in a “penumbra” of the Fourteenth Amendment, the Court effectively legalized abortion on demand throughout the full nine months of pregnancy in this challenge to the Texas state law regarding abortion. Although the Court mentioned the state’s possible interest in the “potentiality of human life” in the third trimester, legislation to protect that interest would be gutted by mandated exceptions for the “health” of the mother.
Doe v. Bolton
A companion case to Roe, which challenged the abortion law in Georgia, Doe v. Bolton broadly defined the “health” exception so that any level of distress or discomfort would qualify and gave the abortionist final say over what qualified: “The medical judgment may be exercised in the light of all factors–physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman’s age–relevant to the well being of the patient. All these factors may relate to “health.” Because the application of the health exception was left to the abortionist, legislation directly prohibiting any abortion became practically unenforceable.
Abortion is big business. National Right to Life estimates the American abortion industry rakes in approximately $505 million annually killing unborn children.
According to the Guttmacher Institute, the mean (average) cost for a first trimester abortion is $558. This cost multiplied by the estimated 906,308 abortions performed in 2018 equals $505,719,864.
According to their own annual report, Planned Parenthood performs over 1/3 of the abortions performed annually in the United States.
Planned Parenthood’s Annual Report for 2016-2017 reported that their clinics performed 321,384 abortions. This equals approximately 35% of the annual number of abortions performed in the United States.
Planned Parenthood made at least $175 million from abortion.
Multiplying the average cost of a first trimester abortion ($451) by the number of abortions Planned Parenthood reported performing in 2016-2017, National Right to Life estimates Planned Parenthood made $179,332,272 from abortions.
Planned Parenthood reported over $1.4 billion in revenues for 2016-2017.
Planned Parenthood’s annual report showed revenues of $1,459,6000 for fiscal year 2016-2017. Of that, they reported that $543.7 million came from federal, state, and local grants and payments.

American Association of Therapists Treating Abortion Related Trauma
“We are an organization of therapists concerned with the legitimization of abortion as a trauma. We are also concerned with professionalizing the treatment of abortion as a trauma through the use of evidenced based practice and sound psychological theory.”
Music for the Soul
Breakthroughs in the realm of brain science and therapy have revealed that music can have a positive impact in the process of post-abortive recovery. Music for the Soul is one of the foremost groups in this new field, combining the expertise of professional musicians, therapists, pastors, and ministry leaders in order to bring life-giving resources to those in need of healing.
